This 1-bedroom attic apartment, overlooking the sophisticated rooftops of Rue de Lausanne and St Gilles beyond, is located in the vibrant neighbourhood of St Gilles, in central Brussels. The luminous apartment is divided into two levels and features wooden furniture, slanted ceilings with skylights, and a spacious, relaxing bedroom on the upper floor.

The multicultural neighbourhood of St. Gilles is home to an abundance of parks, bars, galleries, restaurants and shops, ensuring that a balanced city life is possible. It is perfect for students given its proximity to the universities and professionals as the European Commission and Institutions are all easily accessed by the nearby metro, buses and trams. St Gilles itself has a great deal to offer however the city centre and shopping haven of upmarket area Ixelles are also nearby, with night buses which mean that the famous Brussels night life can be enjoyed without the expense of a taxi. The size of the apartment is 65m2.

What we liked the most

  • The skylights make the apartment very luminous and offer some superb views of the rooftops of St Gilles. The view from the bedroom in particular is exceptional.
  • The comfortable living room has a foldable sofa which is perfect if you have guests to stay. The dining area within the kitchen also seats up to five or six people, making it an ideal sociable space.
  • The Justice Hall can be seen from the apartment, showing its proximity to some of the most important institutions in Brussels, while the European Institutions, Commission and university are under thirty minutes by public transport.
  • The rooms are spacious and there is a great deal of storage throughout. There are two traditional and attractive bureaus in the apartment, perfect for students or those beginning their career in the city.
  • The apartment is perfect for those who like the city but also some greenery, as there are plenty of parks around yet tenants will only be fifteen minutes from the city centre.
  • There is a washing machine in the large bathroom. The bathroom has two sinks, perfect for couples.

Things to keep in mind

  • There is no oven, however there is a two rung electric stove and microwave that should cater to your cooking requirements.
  • The bedroom is accessed by a spiralling staircase, this may prove difficult when moving larger things into the room and the room itself does not have much storage. However the rest of the apartment has ample space, meaning that using the bedroom to store belongings is not always necessary.
  • The apartment building lacks an elevator.

Getting around

Transportation

In terms of public transport, this apartment is excellently positioned. The transport links ensure that you will be able to travel around Brussels quickly and easily. The European Commissions and Institutions are around twenty minutes by metro, Metro station Louise and Munthof are both around 7 minutes walk from the apartment and connect with lines 2 and 6, which will take you directly to the European Institutions. The Faider tram station is 5 minutes from the apartment and will get you to Gare Central in the city centre in 20 minutes with line 92, which will also take you to Université Saint-Louis - Bruxelles in 20 minutes. Line 97 also leaves from here Faider. Brussels Zuid train station is 20 minutes away from the apartment and from there you can be in Paris in a few hours, perfect for a quick break or work trip. Stephanie tram is around ten minutes away and connects with lines 93 and 94. Line 94 will take you to Université Libre de Bruxelles in just over 20 minutes. Night bus service N12 can be taken from Bareet bus stop, ten minutes walk from the apartment - ideal if you wish to sample the famous Belgian nightlife in the city centre.
