Spotahome's opinion

This five bedroom, three bathroom apartment starts on the ground floor and descends to the floors minus one and minus two in the basement. The apartment has five rooms for rent and is located in the cultural hub of upmarket, sought-after area Ixelles in Brussels. The area is within walking distance of the European Institutions, universities and the city center, yet public transport will also connect you with these areas both day and night. Shopping, culture and a vibrant nightlife are all easily accessible. Place Flagey is five minutes from the apartment and is loaded with bars and restaurants with handy terraces to soak in the Belgian way of life...surrounded by a diverse mix of cultures. There are five double bedrooms for rent individually, either to couples or singles. With three separate common spaces and a large garden, this is an ideal living setup for students and professionals aged between 19 and 27. The apartment is 200m2.

What we liked the most

  • The garden is huge, it looks like it is the perfect sun trap for a summer’s day. The large table means that al fresco dining is a daily possibility and if you are interested in organic fruit and veg, you could always try your hand at a spot of gardening. A wonderful space to escape the stresses of daily life!
  • There is a great deal of commons space meaning that you can socialise with different people in different areas, and you are not restricted to the one commons area.
  • There are four showers among five bedrooms, eliminating the dreaded morning queue.
  • The kitchen is well-equipped and incredible, there is a five rung modern hob, a large refrigerator and a breakfast bar. Perfect for the budding chefs among us.
  • Room 5 will have an en-suite meaning that the other bathrooms are only shared among four rooms, and not five.
  • Due to the nature of the property. and despite being below ground level, the bedrooms and common areas on the lower levels are still illuminated by natural light

Things to keep in mind

  • The bathroom in Room 5 is still under construction yet should be completed before the move-in date (updated August 2015).
  • The garden is an excellent space yet will likely need tending to on a regular basis so that it does not become overgrown and unsightly.

Bedroom 3: this large double bedroom is spacious and elegant. This room is furnished with a double bed, a heating unit, a desk, a chest of drawers, and shelving. There is also a standalone wardrobe for storage. The room also has a sofa which can be made into a bed, ideal if guests are visiting the city. The storage and size make it ideal for couples, yet it can also be rented individually. Our Homechecker said this room was quite dark.

How to book

Transportation

The apartment is very well connected with public transport links. The Germoir tram station is seven minutes from the apartment by foot and connects with line B1. The N08 night bus runs from Germoir bus stop, and line 95 during the day. Three minutes from the apartment is Malibran bus stop connecting with bus lines 38 and 60 while only two minutes from the apartment is Wery bus stop with line 59. Place de Flagey is around five minutes from the apartment and has night buses N09 which goes from Gare Centrale, the central train station. Bus line 71 can also be taken from here and Tram station Flagey is also found here. European Institutions, universities and city center can all be accessed by public transport in under twenty minutes.
