Ghisolfa
Milan’s second student district
Overview
5km outside of central Milan, students walk to university for today’s lectures, and commuters catch their train to the city.
This is Ghisolfa, where students and workers unite!
Ghisolfa is a residential area dominated by tram links to the university campus to the north, and Centro in the south-east.
It is a small neighbourhood with a lot of busy people, so the atmosphere here is more “power walk” than “quick nap”.
Ghisolfa isn’t exactly where the party is at, but it gets you close!
The district has trams, metros and buses galore, so you’ll have no problems getting where you need to go.
** What can I do here?**
Ghisolfa is a place to call home while spreading your wings elsewhere.
Most residents have interests either in the university campus in Bovisa, or to a place of work in Centro.
But Ghisolfa isn’t just a sleeping neighbourhood. Via Mac Mahon is the main high street, providing all the shopping and food you’ll need!
And at the weekend, you can enjoy Parco Giardino Giovanni Testori for a relaxing walk.
But for the ultimate in green spaces, take a 20 minute walk to Parco del Portello. It has a few surprises up its sleeve! Google search the bird’s eye view and you’ll see what we mean.
If you’re too hungry to think anymore, we’ll make your decision for you.
The place to go is La Rosa dei Venti. The Rose of the Winds. High prices, but very high quality. And if you don’t believe us: it’s in the Michelin guide. That makes it one of the top 50 or so restaurants in the whole of Milan!
Bridge fact
Ghisolfa gets its name from the bridge that marks the beginning of the district. Practical.
** Can I afford it?**
