Nestled in the steep, narrow eaves of a beautiful 19th century building, with dark wood roof beams, and tiled floors worn smooth by the years, the romance of this city flows through the stone of the walls. Gaze through the shuttered windows at the understated beauty of Basilica di San Clemente. Relax on the sofa, cooled by the white plaster, and listen to the city.
The apartment has been lovingly updated, with its glass and clean lines contrasting and enhancing the original features to provide a classical elegance, and modern experience. We adore it.
Life here can't help but be la dolce vita, as you walk the cobblestone streets to one of the nearby cafe-bars, sitting in the sun, admiring a city that is pure aesthetic.
If you have to come down to earth, you can find plenty to make it easy, with local amenities including banks, and a Carrefour Express grocery store. The tram is nearby, too, and next to it, a leafy park.
What we liked the most
- Windows open wide, wholesome Italian food on the table, the sounds of the city drifting up from the street. The basilica lit up in the background. This dining area might be one of the nicest places you could possibly enjoy a meal.
- The living room is such a simple but welcoming space. Ideal to cool down on a summer evening.
- Just a minute's walk away you can wander into Parco Del Colle Oppio, and loose yourself among the overgrown ancient ruins.
- Return to reality, pop down to the Carrefour supermarket. Look up. It's the Colosseum.
Things to keep in mind
- The apartment is on the 4th and 5th floors of a building with no elevator.
- The ceilings in the apartment can be low in places. Mind your head!
