This suburban area is where you can find places like Las Rozas, Majadahonda and Sierra Noroeste. They're quiet and residential but you'll find major shopping centers, gigantic parks and restaurants scattered around.
Madrid Norwest is a great place for students. While not directly connected to major universities, you can hop on the commuter train and get to a number of them in a snap.
Living far from the city center will equal big savings on accommodation. You'll still need to take the metro to get everywhere but you'll be able to enjoy all that Madrid has to offer.
