Calvairate
Academic and residential

Overview
Tree-lined streets and centuries of architecture.

In Calvairate you’ll enjoy a quiet and traditional Milanese area.

The area’s marvellous architecture will take you on a historical journey. You’ll travel from the 19th century to the modern day and stop in on the 1920s along the way.

All in a short walk. That’s a lot of history!

What else?

Both Bocconi University and the Politecnico di Milano are only a 30-minute walk away.

So it’s pretty great for students, too.

What can I do here?
Shop til you drop!

To the north and south you’ll find the popular shopping streets of Corso XXII Marzo or Corso Lodi. Head on over to these bustling and lively areas; you’ll find plenty to keep you busy.

Not into shopping or dancing the night away?

No problem.

How about a visit to Parco Emilio Alessandrini? There, you can take in the local life under the sun. You’ll find plenty of play areas for kids. And play areas for dogs, too!

If you’re looking for a posh but friendly restaurant, we’ve got you covered. Drop by Trattoria del Nuovo Macello. It’s on Via Cesare Lombroso, and serves traditional Milanese food. It’s expensive, but worth it.

And last, but not least:

You can’t live here without visiting Piazzale Ferdinando Martini. It’s known for its Wednesday street markets. Modern or vintage, there’s sure to be something you’ll love.

Magi fact
Legend has it that the Magi who gave the gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh were to be buried here. It’s claimed that the wagon carrying them got stuck when it reached the city walls.

No matter how hard the people tried, they could not move the bodies from the wagon!

So the people buried them outside the walls. Calvairate became known as the "Holy Bodies" until 1873. That’s when it became part of Milan.
